SEE JEFF'S HEALTH TIPS:
Don't focus so much on what you are eating, but rather how much, when, and why you are eating it!
There really are not any "bad" foods. If eaten in moderation sweets, fast food, etc. are not wrong. What is more important is avoiding "super sized" portions, emotional or social eating (eating just because you are depressed or because everyone else is), and only eating huge meals once or twice a day. The human body is a machine and functions best when allowed to establish an efficient routine. Not unlike a car, the digestive system works best when it can be on cruise control. If you take in regular, small amounts of calories every 2-3 hours during the day instead of 2 or 3 large meals spread out by several hours, you can actually eat more and not gain any weight. The key is to raise your body’s metabolism to its highest point for maximum efficiency.
- If you work in a sedentary profession, try to incorporate regular "movement" breaks into your day. Many people work at jobs where they spend much of their day at a desk, but this doesn't mean that you can't incorporate a little activity into your day.
- If you don't bring your lunch, make sure that you walk to get lunch rather than having it delivered.
- If you are on the second floor or higher, try to take the stairs whenever possible. If you are on the 14th floor, take the elevator to the 12th and walk the last 2 floors. Even just 2 flights of stairs a day can amount to as much as 6 pounds of weight loss over the course of a year!
- If you know that you are going to be on a conference call, stand up using speaker or a headset so that you can be moving around while you are talking. Not only is it good for your health, studies have shown that increased physical activity leads to increased brain activity and can thus improve your work!
- Don't send e-mails or instant messages around the office. Get up and walk to the office or cubicle of the individual you need to speak to. Again not only is the activity beneficial, but studies have shown that individuals respond better to personal interaction. There is no excuse for remaining totally sedentary at work!
